Hi, I’m Marek J. Scott—a poet-turned-novelist writing epic political fantasy for readers who want an alternative to mystic creatures and spells. My stories wrestle with justice, hope, and the kinds of moral dilemmas that don’t have clean answers.
My debut series, Legends of Alehl, began almost twenty years ago as a handful of scribbled notes. As a geography nerd and a somewhat lazy history enthusiast, I started by creating the world map, ethnic and political histories, and governmental systems—loosely inspired by real-world nations. Life—and all its demands—kept the story on the shelf. In 2021, I finally sat down and finished a first draft. That draft became the foundation of Oracle of the Terebinth.
Set in a fractured world on the brink of global calamity, Legends of Alehl follows the intertwined journeys of Natan, Petra, and Ophir as they confront war, prophecy, and their own convictions. Readers will discover how subtle differences in character perspective—such as spirituality, upbringing, or sense of duty—can greatly influence what a person perceives as right or wrong. I am especially excited for readers to get their hands on the sequel effort, Oracle of the Heaven Song, which is set for a 2026 release date.
I’m based in rural northern Wisconsin, where the quiet wilderness of the Northwoods provides the scenery and serenity that fuels my writing. Before writing fiction, most of my creative energy went into poetry and songwriting. Writing a novel was never part of the plan—but somewhere along the way, it became the most meaningful (and caffeine-fueled) midlife crisis I could’ve asked for.
